Chiropractic Care and Infertility?
A May 2003 discussion published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research by Madeline Behrendt, D.C. (Doctor of Chiropractic) caught the eyes of many in both the chiropractic and infertility communities. Her compilation of the results of 15 case studies describing the response of “subluxated infertile women” to chiropractic care has since resulted in many more documented case studies. Her published results stated that each of the women under her study became pregnant and delivered a healthy baby. Each of these women received chiropractic care for anywhere between 1-20 months.
At Tannenbaum Chiropractic we have had multiple patients become pregnant after seeking chiropractic treatment. Dr. Tannenbaum found subluxation in each of his patients and explained how subluxation affects various conditions; but specifically detailed how chiropractic care provide relief of some visceral conditions relating to the colon and female reproductive organs.
“You will find a ton of anecdotal evidence that chiropractic care can lead to better nerve function to the reproductive organs and individuals who have become pregnant after starting chiropractic care”
In short, injury to the spinal cord or lower back nerves that are not properly sending signals affect the female reproductive system. When doctors prescribe medicine to help female patients or have continuous IVF failures they may not always be attacking the source of the problem. Through multiple adjustments to the spine near the hip area and other areas, Dr. Tannenbaum patients found that they not only felt better but found themselves expecting a bundle of joy.
We cannot rush out and call Dr. Tannenbaum the Love Doctor just yet; but 25 years of experience and spending some time to get to know his patients has produced some incredible results. For these female patients expecting a bundle of joy of many unsuccessful attempts, the experience is literally life changing. Many chiropractors share that they have seen amazing results that can’t always be adequately explained by traditional medical practices.
SOME OF THE ISSUE WITH INFERTILITY AND HOW CHIROPRACTIC CAN HELP
Can a tilted pelvis cause infertility?
A retroverted uterus affects about 20% of all women. It can be caused by any number of fertility problems, like pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis orpelvic surgery. It is most commonly seen in women who have borne children already or who may be older.
What is the Webster technique?
A chiropractic adjustment called the Webster technique is a specific sacral adjustment to help facilitate the mother’s pelvic alignment and nerve system function. This in turn balances pelvic muscles and ligaments, reduces torsion to the uterus and offers a greater potential for optimal fetal positioning.
Can you go to the Chiropractor while pregnant?
There are no known contraindications to chiropractic care throughout pregnancy. All chiropractors are trained to work with women who are pregnant. Investing in the fertility and pregnancy wellness of women who are pregnant or trying to conceive is a routine care for most chiropractors.
